e-Salon: Guy Standing

The coronavirus slump: Goodbye rentier capitalism, hello basic income?

About a decade ago Guy Standing popularised a new concept: ‘the Precariat'.

To cut a long story short, he argues that the 20th-century income distribution system allocating income to both labour and capital has broken down, irretrievably. The inevitable post-COVID slump offers an opportunity to bring an end to rentier capitalism and introduce a basic income. Is this the way forward? Come and discuss ideas and solutions with us.
